Chevy Radiators
Car Radiators: What Do They Do?
They help engines remain relatively cool, thereby keeping them from overheating. The result: they work better and last longer. Plus, everything keeps running the way it's supposed to.
How They Work
It all starts with coolant (more commonly known as antifreeze), which absorbs the excess heat engines produce while running. The fluid does this as it flows through a radiator hose, between an inlet and outlet (with help from a water pump). As it moves, a radiator cap puts pressurizes the antifreeze, helping it absorb as much heat as it can. Finally, a set of fins on the radiator core release the heat, and a fan scatters it into the surrounding air.
The Signs Yours May be Going Bad
They include:
- Heater and air conditioning malfunctions
- Engine overheats
- Engine failure
Luckily, there are signs that'll warn you this is happening, and they're easy to recognize. The most obvious is fin damage. Others include:
- Abnormal engine noise
- Coolant turning to sludge
- A sweet, syrupy smell (ethylene glycol, which can mean coolant leakage)
Think your vehicle has radiator problems? Check its temperature gauge first. It'll tell you whether the engine's running too hot. After that, run an inspection. If its results call for radiator replacement, be sure you get the genuine article.
Why You Should Buy Genuine OEM
Your brand designs them specifically for its models, guaranteeing they'll work together. That's a promise that the aftermarket for radiators can't always make.
